Review of
ivet.com
by Alex Capaldi
Note to reader: I access www.ivet.com
using Netscape Navigator version 4.5 on a Gateway 2000 with an Intel Pentium
II processor.
Youngstown, Ohio's IVET has made its mark in the local music scene with
powerful live shows and intense songs. Like many bands, IVET has set up
and maintains its own website. As IVET's music displays the band's songwriting
ability, the website reflects the webmaster's technical know-how. Many
times I surf to a band's website and find the webmaster has not updated
the site for weeks or months. But the amount of care given to this website
reflects the webmaster's devotion to the band and his level of technical
knowledge.
IVET's home page includes all the essential information about the band.
A calendar of events, email addresses, and news about the band are just
a small portion of the information you can access on the home page. On
the first screen, almost all of the text and graphics are visible, and
scrolling down only lets you see the web counter. Because so much information
is located in such a small area, the text is very small and can be difficult
to read on some screens. Nevertheless, having the basics available in
one glance is convenient. The home page also boasts a Yahoo search engine,
which creates a new browser window so you don't have to put up with annoying
frames or lose IVET's page.
In the "fan area" you can dig deeper into who IVET is by clicking
on the "bio & discography," read band members' innermost
thoughts in the diary, post a message, or find out how to bring IVET to
your town. The site also offers a way for fans to get into IVET shows
for free. All that is required is a little help in promoting an upcoming
show. For the tech-heads and club owners, you can download the stage plot
and equipment list.
The "press" area includes various interviews with local and
regional newspapers and magazines; reviews of IVET shows and CDs; and
comments made by DJs, magazine editors, and local promoters. Merchandise
such as T-shirts and CDs can be ordered by printing the request form and
mailing it to the band's management. A listening station is set up for
you to hear a sample of the music.
This site doesn't overload your senses with loud, flashy graphics and
is updated almost every day. Pictures are kept to a minimum, so there
is no need to wait for pages to load. Overall, IVET's web page is one
of the best-designed band sites on the Web.
